Piano for people

I teach because I love music and I love people—all ages, all walks of life. My superpower is seeing each student as an individual and meeting them where they are. I’m sensitive to your unique way of learning, the music that inspires you, and the goals that bring you to the piano.

I believe consistent, thoughtful lessons paired with mindful practice lead to musical growth and brain health at any age. My goal is for students to leave each lesson feeling challenged, encouraged, and motivated to practice effectively. Learning should be enjoyable and rewarding and not scary or boring. Whether your dream is to play Rachmaninoff concertos or to play a rousing version of Happy Birthday, I’m delighted to help you get there.

In addition to being a pianist and teacher, I’m also a dancer, choreographer, and performance artist. I love working with fellow artists. You may be a singer who wants to accompany yourself, a dancer looking to deepen your musicality, an actor exploring rhythm and expression, or a visual artist interested in working with time-based forms – I love the challenge and collaboration.

“She seems to intuit exactly what it takes to motivate each child.  Her pupils have different temperaments and abilities and, yet, she keeps them happy, motivated and moving forward.  She isn’t just interested in having them master the next piece in the book (though they do) it is about teaching them to love music.  “

“Nicole seems to know exactly how to encourage and push Emilia, while still making the experience enjoyable. Emilia has made wonderful progress, and her interests have expanded to cello. She tells us that Nicole is an excellent teacher because she is ‘energetic and experienced.’”

“Nicole’s calm and easygoing demeanor made our children feel comfortable with her from the very first lesson, but at the same time, she always expected them to work hard and put in the required effort in practicing the piano.  Nicole also has a great sense for how to teach children of all ages, knowing when to push, coax, or encourage, and she never made our children feel overburdened.”
